The File to Site feature allows you to generate a beautiful site in minutes using just a text file. For example, if you upload a client brief or call transcript, Duda will analyze the file then generate a sitemap, design, and draft content based on the file’s context and intent. If you already have pre-prepared website content, you can use the exact text from your file and then let Duda’s AI generate the sitemap and design. From here, you can edit the sitemap, design, and content as needed until you are ready to publish your site.
Note
File to Site support most text-based file types, however we recommend using a .docx file for best results.
To create a site from a file:
-
From the Dashboard, click Start from file.
-
Add a file. Supported file types include most text-based files, however we recommend using .docx for best results.
-
Use the dropdown menu to select how you want to use the contents of the file. Your options are:
-
A base for generated content. This option is helpful when you have a high-level brief or call transcript and need both the content and design generated for the site.
-
Exact texts in a site. Site design is generated, but the exact text from the document is used.
-
-
If you selected Exact texts in a site, you need to specify if the site needs to have one page or multiple. For Will this be a single or multi-page site? select either Single or Multiple.
-
Click Analyze File.
-
Once the file is done being analyzed, the generate site wizard opens. Review and edit the following:
-
Business information. Confirm your business name and what it does. Optionally, add a logo. On the next screen, more context about the business is provided.
-
Select site language.
-
Select your site’s tone. This will apply to AI generated text.
-
Select a color palette. Optionally, upload the business logo to generate a custom color scheme. Note this can be changed in Site Theme later.
-
Select a font set. Note this can be changed in Site Theme later.
-
-
Click Generate Site.
-
A sitemap is displayed with the proposed pages and their sections. You can do the following:
-
Click Continue.
-
The Page Builder opens and the generated design is displayed on the right side of the screen, while the extracted text is in the left panel (only if you used Exact Texts). Note that you can use the various Page Builder features on this screen, however the following features are most relevant when creating a site from a file:
-
Regenerate design for a specific section. Click the Section Layouts tab in the left side panel and select a new section layout.
-
Regenerate design for the entire page. Click Regenerate Page to regenerate the design for the entire page.
-
Drag and drop text. If you chose to use Exact Texts, you can drag text from the Site Text panel directly onto the page. A text or heading widget is automatically added as you drop the text onto the canvas.
-
-
Click Continue to Editor. Once in the editor, you can edit and publish your site as desired.
-
Note that if you need to add additional content from a different file or URL after your site is generated, you can do so from the Site Text or the Content Library screens.
