This article covers the best practices for building custom templates that are optimized for AI content population.
To optimize a custom template for AI population, we recommend the following:
-
Use supported widgets. Most common widgets are supported. If a widget is not supported the content inside of the widget simply will not be generated by AI and will not break or cause issues with the template upon content generation. Currently unsupported widgets include: Restaurant menu, Mega menu, and custom links.
-
Build your template with Site Theme. Use your Site Theme (theme colors, theme fonts, theme buttons, etc) to ensure all elements remain connected to the theme and any changes made during site generation will be applied properly to the site. If you need to update your site’s theme colors during the site generation process, use the “Color Instructions Field”.
-
Connect relevant elements to Content Library Business Info. Connect your logo and any other widgets to the Content Library Business Info using connected data. Note that connected data is not updated by AI.
IMPORTANT: Do not use inline binding in your template as this content will be replaced by AI.
-
Avoid using decorative content. For example, using a solid colored image as a background instead of setting the background color for the specific element.
-
Note that if you have decorative content, such as a decorative icon or gradient that should always remain in the template and not be modified by AI, you need to enable the Skip element toggle. It is available in Template Mode for use on section and container backgrounds, and on Image, Icon and Media Slider widgets.
-
You can enable a custom template to be populated with AI from the dashboard or from inside the editor (when in Template Mode).
-
From the dashboard, click Custom Assets in the top bar, then select Custom Templates. Click the three dot icon on the desired template card, then select Set as AI-Ready.
-
From inside the editor, click the drop down menu in the top bar and select AI compatible. Note that you must be in Template Mode for this option to appear.
If there is an element in your custom template that you do not want populated with AI, you need to enable that element’s Don’t replace with AI toggle. This ensures content you add to the element in Template Mode will not be overwritten by AI generated content.
The Don’t replace with AI toggle can be found in the Style section of the design panel, or in an element’s context menu. See the screenshots below for examples.
