This feature is being gradually rolled out to accounts.
Contacts is a list of the people connected to a site, such as visitors who submit a form, book an appointment, or place an order. Each site has its own contacts. Use the list to see who your contacts are, organize them with labels, and choose who receives marketing messages.
To open it, click Contacts in the project dashboard.
Note
Contacts is separate from your store's customer list. For shoppers and their orders, see Customers in Native Store.
Contacts are added or updated automatically when a visitor:
-
Submits a form that includes an email address.
-
Places a store order.
-
Enters an email address at checkout but doesn't finish the order (an abandoned cart).
-
Books an appointment.
-
Signs up as a site member.
Contacts are matched by email address. If someone is already a contact, their details are updated instead of creating a duplicate.
Some activity also adds a label automatically, such as booking, order, or cart_abandoned, so you can see how each contact interacted with the site.
You can also add contacts yourself, one at a time or by importing a file.
-
Click New Contact.
-
Enter the contact's details. Only fill in the email and SMS subscription statuses if the contact has agreed to receive marketing messages.
-
Click Save.
For more information, see Manage Marketing Communications Consent and Subscriptions.
You can import contacts from a CSV, .xls, or .xlsx file. Each file can be up to 10 MB and include up to 5,000 contacts. To import more, split them into multiple files and import each one.
-
Click Import.
-
Upload your file. To start from a correctly formatted file, click Download CSV template.
-
Follow the prompts to review and confirm the import.
Consent is checked before imported contacts are added. For more information, see Manage Marketing Communications Consent and Subscriptions.
Click a contact to open their profile. The profile shows when the contact was created and where they came from, plus:
-
Contact details: Email, subscription status, name, address, phone number, lifecycle stage, and order totals.
-
Activity log: The contact's activity on the site, such as abandoned carts. You can search it or filter it by date.
-
Segments: The segments the contact belongs to.
-
Labels: The labels applied to the contact.
-
Orders & Booked Appointments: The contact's orders, abandoned carts, and appointments.
Lifecycle stage shows where a contact is in their relationship with the business, such as Lead or Customer. It updates automatically as the contact books, signs up, or places an order.
-
Open the contact's profile.
-
Next to Contact details, click the edit icon.
-
Update the details, and click Save.
You can also click the three-dot icon next to a contact in the list and select Edit Contact.
To store information the standard fields don't cover, click Add Custom Field. For more information, see Custom Fields for Marketing Automation.
